ABOUT

Adventuring since 2018.

Every dog deserves an unforgettable time away from home.

Adventures & Walks bring training and exploring together to enrich your dog's life. I teach dogs how to work well within a pack, walk with me and without pulling, and remain calm around life’s distractions. I help them manage their impulses, act appropriately around other dogs, refine their off leash skills, and build their confidence to bring out the best in your dog.

We have rules so they know what to do when it matters, but if they're off leash, they get to run through the forest, explore trails, romp through long grass, feel the sand beneath their paws, play with their friends and get their nose into the good smells too.

Pick up zones in Lower Hutt & Upper Hutt.

APPROACH

Your dogs, my family.

Your dog is more than just a dog - they become part of my family.

I take the time to understand who they are, what they enjoy (and don't), their quirks and what struggles they have, to help your dog thrive and unlock their full potential.

They’re treated with the same love and care I’d give my own, and matched with the right dogs to feel safe and comfortable. I focus on building a strong bond so each dog feels understood, loved and supported, and learns how to be a good pack member.

Some of the ways to keep dogs safe.

IMG_0232.jpg

Use of leashes

A leash helps a dog stay connected with me, manage excitement, make good choices & follow bylaws. Dogs transition to a long leash to continue learning and practice good social skills before gaining full freedom.

Matching the dogs

Assessing dogs and matching them with others ensures a good fit and relaxed, comfortable pack. Managing body language and behavior prevents bullying & issues, and minimises risks of fight, flight & conflict.

In the van

Calm is established before they get in the van. Dogs are harnessed, clipped in & relax in a down. No hanging out windows, barking, or jumping out, and air conditioning keeps temperature comfortable.

Rules & Expectations

Teaching dogs the right behaviors keeps them under control. Like check-ins, staying close, acting calmly, giving way, not approaching strangers, dogs, animals etc, and waiting before going in water.

LEARNING

Training focused on both you & your dog.

Outside of Adventuring, I also help dog owners get ahead with one-on-one training. Life with a dog shouldn't be a struggle and neither should making sense of 'trainer speak' to teach your dog or stop behaviours you don't want.

I take a common sense approach with simple, easy and effective techniques, without the jargon or judgement. We focus on both you and your dog, to provide understanding and clarity, and to allow you to better 'feel' your dog and what they need.

About Beks.

I've been a dog handler since 2018, and since then have immersed myself in the dog world to know and understand how dogs' minds tick, what motivates them & how to get the best out of them.

Over the years I've refined how I teach and handle dogs to guide them with calm, assertive energy, and create an environment where they can quiet their minds and make better choices, even during play.

I have two Border Collies, Gus & Nellie (now retired) who have been instrumental in helping manage the packs.

We absolutely love Beks and everything that Dogs by Beks stands for. Luna, our nearly 4 year old has gone from strength to strength under Beks’ amazing guidance. Luna looks forward to her walk with Beks and her pack every week. We have noticed a huge change in her confidence, calmness and her ability to regulate herself in different environments. Beks is a wealth of knowledge, which she generously shares with us. She has an amazing way with dogs and humans, and treats Luna as an extension of her family. We have never felt so safe with someone looking after Luna and can’t recommend Beks highly enough!

Since she has been with Beks, we have noticed a massive difference in Hazel’s manners and her confidence. We also have benefited so much by Beks sharing her knowledge of dog behaviour and training to help navigate tricky behaviours. Hazel absolutely loves her weekly adventures and we love helping her live her best life. She comes home happy and tired after a day playing with her pack mates and spending time with her bestie Beks. She treats all the dogs like part of her family. It’s clear she not only loves her role, she excels in it too. You won’t find a nicer, kinder or more skilled professional dog walker/trainer. Highly recommended!

Beks takes my girl Bowie on her adventure walks and she is just so good with her! It can take a while for Bowie to warm up to people but she has definitely come to love Beks and going on her weekly trips. I can’t believe she can get so many dogs to sit still for such cute pics either!!. Appreciate you and your skills Beks! If you need an excellent dog walker or some training for your dog Beks is it!

Beks is SO good at what she does, we feel like we’ve made so much progress with our labradoodle Raffy over the last year. Raffy now walks loose leash as a default and we have much more confidence and control taking her out and about off leash. Beks has helped us with tips to regulate Raffy’s full on energy which has been especially important with a little one joining our fam! Highly recommend Beks, she is super professional, friendly and genuinely cares. Raffy comes home exhausted after her weekly adventure and we love seeing the daily updates of what the pups got up too!

Beks spent time with us working with our 6 month old miniature schnauzer to teach good methods for walking, listening and being calm. This was an amazing time and so incredibly important to get the basics right. Beks is warm, friendly and our dog loved her within 2 minutes of meeting her. I would 100% recommend anyone wanting help with their dog to get in touch with Beks.

Our Border Collie Louie has the best time with Beks. She's super kind and caring and genuinely adores her furry friends. Louie's behaviour has come such a long way since being with her. So much so, this year's guy fawkes he wasn't too phased by the bangs - even sleeping through them! I'm so proud of how far Louie has come, and I'm so grateful for Beks' guidance and wisdom - not just with Louie, but with us too!

Beks is amazing with the dogs and helping the owners as well. My dog Lucky is missing her so much. She also takes such amazing photos of them. If you get the chance to have your dog on her walks you will not be disappointed. She really know how to help them. Just wish she hadn’t moved away from us.

Beks is amazing, we call her the dog whisperer! We had Beks come to our home when our pup was only about 12 weeks old to teach us how to train her. It was so helpful! When Marley was old enough she went on weekly adventures with Beks and our new boy Ted joined the pack while Marley was unwell. Our dogs are so respectful and calm thanks to Beks’ training. Vets and groomers can’t believe they’re still only pups because they’re so well behaved! We can’t thanks Beks enough, our labradoodles miss her! ❤️
